Moving is a bit more challenging these days due to Coronavirus. With certain precautions, you can still safely move. Here are a few moving tips during the Coronavirus pandemic that we think might be helpful.
1 – Selecting a Moving Company
If you’re hiring a moving company, screen them ahead of time with some extra questions. Learn about what precautions they’ve adopted. Normally, companies would send a representative to your home for an estimate. Ask if they can do this virtually instead, either with pictures that you take and send to them or via a video call. Lastly, make sure they have adopted a paperless process of signing contracts and submitting payments.
2 – Clean Before & After
Although it’s extra work, you will need to clean your new home multiple times. Before you move in, clean and sanitize the space. This is a great time for a thorough cleaning since everything will be empty and easily accessible. After the movers have brought in your belongings, it’s time to clean and sanitize once again. This should be done before you unpack. Laying down paper along walkways (and secured with painter’s tape to avoid a tripping hazard) can help make the second cleaning a little easier.
3 – Screening Moving Help
If you’re tackling the move on your own and are enlisting the help of friends and family, make sure no one has been in contact with a COVID-19 positive person or is showing any symptoms themselves. This will help protect the safety of everyone involved.
4 – Moving Day Precautions
Take necessary precautions such as wearing masks and gloves. Have plenty of hand sanitizer available as well for when gloves come off (i.e. water breaks, lunch breaks). When masks are off maintain social distancing!
Summary of Moving Tips During the Coronavirus Pandemic
The goal during your move should be to reduce in-person contact as much as possible, such as obtaining virtual moving quotes instead of in-person ones, and to minimize exposure when in-person contact is necessary. Masks and gloves are important, as is sanitizing before, during and after the move. Given the extra precautions required throughout the process, be sure to give yourself extra time to complete your move. This all makes moving more complicated and time consuming, but it will pay off in the end by helping to keep you, your family, and everyone else involved safe and healthy.
