5 Ways to Reduce Your MA Auto Insurance Rate

Toy car, money and calculator over white. Concept for buying, reAuto insurance rates are calculated based on many different factors. If you are price sensitive and are looking for ways to reduce your MA auto insurance rate, here are a few options to discuss with your insurance provider.

1. Increase Your Deductible

Collision and Comprehensive deductibles in Massachusetts range anywhere from $300 to $2,000. A higher deductible often results in a lower insurance premium. However, keep in mind that if you have an accident where you are at fault or where you cannot identify the party who is at fault, you will need to pay this deductible to get your car repaired. That up-front cost may be financially painful for some people, while others can justify it with the premium savings. You’ll need to evaluate your individual situation and whether increasing your deductibles makes sense for your situation.

2. Drop Extras

You can drop add-on services such as towing and rental car coverage. This is a good idea if you already have similar coverage elsewhere.

3. Combine Policies

Combining your MA auto insurance with homeowner’s, condo, or renter’s insurance typically qualifies you for an additional discount. In some cases, this adds up to several hundred dollars per year.

4. Ask About Safety Feature Discounts

Most insurance companies provide discounts for car alarms, lo-jack, air bags, and other safety features. Make sure your insurance provider has the proper stats on your car and that you are receiving all possible safety discounts.

5. Ask About Group Discounts

If you are a member of a trade organization, club, or large corporation, you may be entitled to a group discount. Be sure to ask for and take advantage of these!

Important Note About These Ways to Reduce Your MA Auto Insurance Rate

For items #1 and #2 above, you must weigh the savings against the benefits. If you cannot afford the added premium for these items, then you probably cannot afford the costs of not having them should you get into an accident. Discuss these with your independent insurance agent to understand exactly what the added costs are so that you can make an informed decision. Your agent should also be able to help you shop for prices against multiple providers and find the best deal for you.
